Applying natural clay plaster to an exterior wall at Mosaic

Curious about how to protect your exterior walls from rain and wind without relying on cement? Join us for a hands on, two day workshop learning the craft of natural exterior plaster. You will get both practical experience and a clear understanding of the how and the why behind the process.

We have a section of one of our buildings at Mosaic that is ready for plastering, so we thought: why not use the opportunity to learn how to do it properly ourselves, with an experienced natural builder guiding us, and invite others who are curious to learn alongside us? The area we will be working on is relatively small, so the focus of the weekend is very much on learning, experimenting and understanding the process, rather than getting a large amount of building work done. Together, we will explore the materials, understand the process and put it all into practice on a real building.

Over the two days, you will learn

  • What the ingredients are of a strong, water resistant mix
  • How to apply both base and finish coats
  • Techniques for achieving a beautiful final look
  • How to work with natural pigments

We keep the group small, so there is plenty of room for personal guidance, your questions, and sharing ideas with others.

About Mosaic

For those of you who do not know Mosaic, we are a long term co-living and land stewardship initiative, exploring how an integrated, self responsible human culture can be lived and governed at village scale.

We are exploring how we can organise ourselves differently, creating new ways of living through relational and transformational practices, governance, conflict transformation, land stewardship and collective intelligence, beyond what we have inherited and been conditioned into.
